Users can look up service options, check route times and more, using one centralized website

TUCSON – Sun Tran is proud to unveil a complete website redesign, which consolidates Tucson area transit system information for a streamlined user experience. The new site will serve as the cyber home for Sun Tran, Sun Link, Sun Van, Sun On Demand and Sun Shuttle. The goal of the upgrade is to provide an easy to use, interconnected and reliable website for the community.

“Come check out our sleek new website,” said Steve Spade, Sun Tran’s General Manager. “It features a simplified, clutter-free interface where riders can easily plan trips across all of Tucson’s public transportation services.”

The project flipped three outdated websites with limited functionality into one state-of-the-art website that measures up to leading systems in the country. The new platform boasts a mobile-friendly interface and integrates voice technology for ADA accessibility and compliance. The website can also be translated into multiple languages per the user’s preference.

When Tucsonans want to know if they can use transit to get to their destination, the website will serve up route maps and schedules, along with real-time bus and streetcar arrival times.

“We wanted a website that is clean, simple and accurate,” said Spade. “Our riders rely on transit services to get to work, school and other daily activities. This new website ensures they will have real-time access to information on any internet-connected device.”

Free Fares Continue through December 31, 2022

TUCSON – Fares will remain free through December 31, 2022 on Sun Tran, Sun Link, Sun Van, Sun On Demand and Sun Shuttle. The City of Tucson pulled ride fees in March of 2020, with the onset of the pandemic. The move was an effort to avoid crowding at the farebox and to provide some fiscal relief to riders during a challenging economic environment. Federal grant money was used to cover the loss in revenue up to this point. While budget planning for fiscal year 2022, the Mayor and City Council members affirmed free transit service is a priority.

Mask Requirements Continue for Transit Industry

Passengers and drivers should wear masks when waiting for or riding transit

TUCSON – Masks are still required for public transportation passengers and drivers. While Arizona Governor Doug Ducey is relaxing enforcement of state mandates in some areas, his plan does not apply to public transportation. Sun Tran, Sun Link, Sun Van, Sun Shuttle and Sun On Demand are federally funded agencies and are required to follow a mask mandate from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). For the health and safety of our passengers and drivers, we ask everyone to wear a well-fitting cloth or medical mask when waiting for or riding transit. Masks are also still required at transit centers, streetcar stops and when entering the Sun Tran administrative offices building. To report anyone out of compliance with the order, please call: (520) 792-9222 or send an email to: Sun TranInfo@TucsonAZ.gov.

Tucson’s First 100% Electric Bus

Tucson is pleased to announce it’s first, 100% electric bus. This zero-emission electric bus improves air quality in the community and enhances service to riders. Watch the video to learn about the environmental and socioeconomic benefits of an electric fleet.

This is the first electric bus to be deployed in Sun Tran’s fleet, and will be leased for the next year. Sun Tran has purchased and expects to receive five additional electric buses later this year, paid for with funding awarded by the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Low-No Emission Grant program.

Sun Tran and the City of Tucson recognize the advantages of incorporating an all-electric bus program, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, lowering maintenance costs, and offering quality service to passengers.

Mayor Regina Romero has been a proponent of electrifying the City of Tucson vehicles. “Electric buses help improve our community’s air quality, and avoid associated healthcare expenses,” said Romero. “I encourage our community to try out our new electric bus. This is one step to making our community more climate-resilient, including electrifying our city’s vehicles and transit fleet.”

Since 2006, 100 percent of Sun Tran’s fleet is powered by clean fuel technology. Sun Tran’s fleet currently runs on biodiesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and hybrid-electric power sources. “Sun Tran is invested in creating an innovative and smart transportation system,” said Steve Spade, Sun Tran General Manager. “Our passengers can be confident they are contributing to a more sustainable community and cleaner air.
