Sun Tran and Teamsters Local 104 Reach Agreement on New Three-Year Collective Bargaining Agreement

July 13, 2026

Sun Tran and Teamsters Local 104 have reached agreement on a new three-year collective bargaining agreement, concluding negotiations that began on March 26. Sun Tran bargained in good faith throughout the process, with a commitment to a fair, equitable, and fiscally responsible outcome. The ratified agreement includes competitive wages, retirement benefits, and meaningful investments in safety, recognizing the essential role operators and maintenance professionals play in providing reliable public transportation to the Tucson community.

Safety was central to every discussion. The agreement gives operators and maintenance employees the tools, resources, and support to do their jobs safely and effectively, including continued investments in security, modern technology, enhanced training, updated operating procedures, and improved operator protective barriers. These commitments align with the City of Tucson’s Transit Safety and Security Action Plan, which Sun Tran developed in partnership with the city based on input from Teamsters Local 104 leadership, transit operators, riders, the Tucson Transit Advisory Committee (TTAC), and community members. Current efforts under the plan include additional Tucson Police Department deployments, expanded private security hours, targeted interventions at bus stops, enhanced operator barriers, and ongoing safety investments.

Through the voter-approved RTA Next plan, $51 million has been dedicated to regional transit safety and security, including approximately $2.15 million allocated annually to the City of Tucson for initiatives such as transit ambassadors, increased police and security presence, additional bus stop cleaning, and operator barrier improvements.

“Sun Tran remains dedicated to responsible financial stewardship, making careful decisions that reflect our values, priorities, and those of the City of Tucson,” said C. Mikel Oglesby, General Manager for Sun Tran. “As we move forward, the safety of our employees and the public remains our highest priority. We are committed to providing safe, reliable, and dependable transportation every day while continuing to serve the Tucson community with service excellence.”

Sun Tran appreciates the support of the City of Tucson leadership, Teamsters Local 104, and the community throughout this process and looks forward to implementing the agreement while continuing to build a safer, stronger, and more reliable transit system for the years ahead.
